Operator-Centered Design for High-Stakes Systems

Human factors engineering and UX design for defense, aerospace, and regulated industrial environments: where operator decisions carry real consequences.

What we do in this sector

Interface design for defense and aerospace systems is not a variation of standard product UX — it is a distinct discipline. When an operator mistake can have operational, safety, or strategic consequences, the work shifts from optimizing for preference to designing for reliability, clarity, and resilience under stress. Bellerose XD applies human factors principles alongside user-centered methods to build interfaces that support operators in high-stakes decision environments.

Our defense and aerospace experience spans operator workstations for naval systems, threat visualization and pattern-of-life interfaces, biometric training evaluation tools for law enforcement, and energy management interfaces for hybrid aircraft. We work with defense primes and government research clients, including multiple mandates through Thales Digital Solutions for Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC).

We adapt our research and design process to the security requirements of each engagement — working in project environments that require Reliability Status clearance, managing information with appropriate handling protocols, and collaborating with clients operating under federal contracting and export control constraints.

Reliability Status

Louis-Philippe Bellerose holds a personal Reliability Status. For engagements requiring higher clearance levels, sponsorship can be arranged through the engagement.

Trilingual capability

Work delivered in French, English, and Brazilian Portuguese. Particularly relevant for federal procurement in Canada, NATO partner programs, and international defense contracts.

Canadian-owned consultancy

Bellerose XD is a Canadian-owned independent consultancy with direct experience working with Canadian defense primes and government research organizations.

Starting a defense engagement

Most engagements begin with a 30-minute conversation to understand your situation and requirements. For defense work specifically, we can discuss scope, clearance requirements, and how Bellerose XD can support your team — whether as a subcontractor to a prime or embedded with a larger delivery team.
