Looking toward 2036, theological education is expected to move beyond a purely academic model to become a hybrid ecosystem: a form of training that integrates spiritual depth, ethical integrity, and practical skills exercised in service of communities.
However, the ongoing transformation is not limited to modernizing content or digitizing courses. The challenge is deeper: balancing three requirements that do not naturally align:
• Spiritual depth that shapes inner life and discernment;
• Ethical integrity that protects individuals and ensures ministry is trustworthy;
• Proven skills applied in real-world contexts over time, serving concrete communities.
In other words, the question is not only how to transmit knowledge, but what makes theological education credible, safe, and fruitful in a world that is increasingly complex, fast-paced, and distributed.
To address this, design thinking workshops will be organized to illuminate the path forward, highlight potential obstacles, and establish concrete outcomes to achieve.
